ASSIGNMENT

Your first assignment for the Scholars Program is due the first day you enter school your freshman year. Be sure to start your high school career on a positive note. Do not read this assignment in the last few days of summer. Read and reread it multiple times through the summer and spend time thinking about it. We will reference this assignment during the study of several of our units throughout the year. Putting some effort in now will save you time later. Consider the misconceptions at the end of the assignment. Is this what you believed the article was saying? If so, you need to read it again. Answer the eight questions at the end of the article. It's fine if you wait until the end of summer to answer them. Read the article and ponder its message. Only answer the questions after considerable and sincere reflection.

Read the summary to Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel.  Answer the Essential Questions at the end.  Do not wait until the last few days of summer.  You need to digest this information over the summer.  You understanding is more important than the points this assignment is worth.  We will revisit the concepts in this book several times over the school year. Past students remind me to emphasize the importance of this assignment as an introduction to this course.  Have a good summer.

Welcome to Von Steuben,
